Live music happening May 16-18 in Northern Minnesota

KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features Mae Simpson & Erik Koskinen, Drew Peterson, Brothers Burn Mountain, Corey Medina & Brothers and Teddy Arunski.

Kick It With KAXE is our annual meeting and celebration of the incredible volunteers that make this radio station possible. To help celebrate, we're bringing Mae Simpson and Erik Koskinen to Rapids Brewing Co. this Thursday at 6 p.m. Simpson is an up-and-coming powerhouse singer with a funky backing band. Koskinen has been one of Minnesota's finest Americana musicians for decades and shows no signs of slowing down with his latest release Down Street/Love Avenue.

KAXE presents Erik Koskinen and Mae Simpson at Rapids Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids on May 16.

Rapids Brewing Co. is hosting another show Friday night with folk-blues singer-songwriter Drew Peterson at 7 p.m. The longtime Minnesota musician formerly played with groups like The Dead Pigeons and 40 Watt Bulb. He is a steel guitar player with an authentic blues sound.

The duo Brothers Burn Mountain will be in Aitkin at Block North's Locker Room Friday at 8 p.m. Ryan and Jesse Dermody have a one-of-a-kind live show that will certainly feature extended blues jams and incredible drum solos. Their latest album The Thrill and The Flame was released in 2022, and they also operate a recording studio in Cotton.

On Saturday, Corey Medina & Brothers and Teddy Arunski will be providing live music for Summer Sip Off in Park Rapids. Taking place at the Hubbard County Fairgrounds, the event will feature a variety of breweries and wineries and begins at 4 p.m. Arunski is a solo singer and guitarist who uses a looping pedal to expand his sound. Corey Medina & Brothers is an electric trio from Bemidji who brings the rock and roll and blues in equal parts.

Malachy started his radio career at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today. He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Centerstage Minnesota, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 2pm.
