This week on The Setlist we are focusing on Grand Rapids, where the stars are aligning for a jam-packed weekend of live music featuring two beloved Minnesota bands and a nationally touring folk musician.
Dead Man Winter is a side project of Trampled By Turtles front man Dave Simonett. Showcasing a mellower Americana sound than the fast-paced bluegrass of TBT, the band has released two albums in 2011 and 2017.
Simonett will be joined by Erik Koskinen, Tim Saxhaug, Lars-Erik Larson, and Brian Nichols when Dead Man Winter play Friday night at the Reif Center.
Listen to KAXE at 2 p.m. Friday for a pre-show interview with Dave Simonett on Centerstage Minnesota.
At Rapids Brewing Co., critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Martin Sexton will be performing at 8 p.m. Friday. Sexton has released eight studio albums and received the National Academy of Songwriters Artists of the Year award in 1994. He is currently on a nationwide tour of the U.S.
On to Saturday, Minnesota favorites Davina and the Vagabonds will be bringing their signature mix of jazz and blues to The Reif Center at 7 p.m. The last time the group performed in Grand Rapids, they sold out Rapids Brewing Co. for their Sugar Drops album release show.
