BEMIDJI — The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of scammers impersonating employees.
"The scammer claims to be a deputy, including naming actual staff of the sheriff’s office, with a summons or a warrant for their arrest," a news release from Wednesday, Sept. 30, stated. "The scammers then attempt to gain personal information as well as solicit money to avoid arrest."
Residents who receive these calls are encouraged to hang up immediately and to not provide personal information.
"Law enforcement does not initiate these types of calls nor directs people to online payment applications," the release stated.
Warrant statuses can be checked with court administration. Beltrami County's online warrant list portal is undergoing development.
Those who wish to resolve active Beltrami County warrants are encouraged to attend warrant court, scheduled at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays.
