WALKER — A motorcyclist was killed, and a truck driver was arrested after a crash near Walker on Thursday, Aug. 20.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a semitruck was southbound on Highway 371 around 4 p.m. when it made a “sudden maneuver” onto the right shoulder toward the motorcycle.
The motorcycle hit the cable barrier near milepost 86 in Shingobee Township, less than a mile south of Northern Lights Casino. The rear of the semitruck then ran over the motorcyclist. He was identified as Roy John Berger, 30, of Vadnais Heights.
The semi-driver was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide.
The trucker was identified in court documents as Timothy William Hall, 33, of Emlenton, Pennsylvania,
According to a criminal complaint filed Friday, witnesses reported the semi intentionally swerved onto the shoulder of the road to block a motorcycle from passing it. After the crash, witnesses said the driver fled the scene.
The semi company sent the truck's dash camera footage to law enforcement for review, which appeared to corroborate witness accounts, per the complaint.
Hall made his first court appearance Friday and is currently in custody at the Cass County Detention Facility awaiting a $250,000 bond.
He is facing two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide: one for intentionally causing a fatal crash and the other for fleeing the scene.
