The Bemidji Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Wood Avenue on the report of a possible garage fire.

BEMIDJI — Two people were injured in a fire in Bemidji's Nymore area Wednesday, July 22.

The Bemidji Fire Department responded to a possible garage fire around 8:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Wood Avenue. Fifteen firefighters with five pieces of equipment worked to put out an engulfed camper and debris that caught fire around the scene, according to a news release.

Two men suffered burn injuries, with one man suffering what Fire Chief Justin Sherwood described as "major burns."

Sherwood said it’s too early to tell the exact cause of the fire.

"Whatever they were doing in there, it happened really fast, and they tried to put it out, too," he said.

No firefighters were injured.

The camper involved was destroyed by the fire. The adjacent house and garage sustained no damage.

The fire remains under investigation, but the cause is believed to be accidental.

Bemidji Ambulance Service, Bemidji Police Department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted at the scene.
