The free test kits from the Beltrami County Soil and Water Conservation District check for bacteria, nitrates, lead, arsenic and manganese in private wells.

BEMIDJI — The Beltrami County Soil and Water District and Red Lake Department of Natural Resources are offering 200 well water test kits for free.

Plenty of kits were still available as of Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Testing will check levels of coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrates, lead, arsenic and manganese. If results show unsafe levels, residents may be eligible for water treatment and remediation assistance.

Beltrami County residents can pick up kits at the Environmental Services Office in Bemidji or call 218-333-4152 for more details.

Red Lake Nation residents should contact Michelle Anderson with the Red Lake Department of Natural Resources at 218-679-1614.
