MINNEAPOLIS — Detroit Lakes are back-to-back state gymnastics champions once again.
The Lakers led the field in all four categories Friday, Feb. 20, to win the team title by over three points.
It’s the seventh championship in team history. Detroit Lakes won state 2015 through 2019.
Lakers’ success continued Saturday in the individual and all-around competition. Senior Maggie Schander won four of five possible gold medals (all-around, balance beam, uneven bars and vault) and claimed silver in the fifth (floor exercise).
Senior Olivia Gag finished fifth in the floor exercise. Senior Addy Laux took seventh in uneven bars.

Factoring in Virginia and Eveleth-Gilbert's histories, it's still the first appearance for the area since 2001. Brainerd, Sebeka, Red Lake Falls, Esko and Barnum will also compete.
