The Valentine’s Day Iron Range Barn Dance united a crowd of all ages and skill levels for an evening of community dancing in Bovey.

BOVEY — All ages and backgrounds came together to swing their partners and promenade around the ballroom dance floor for the first of the 2026 Iron Range Barn Dance series.

The Saturday, Feb. 14, event was hosted on the second floor of the Bovey City Hall.

“The floor is gorgeous,” Megan Reynolds told KAXE Morning Show hosts Heidi Holtan and Jennifer Barr during the Bright Spot segment on Feb. 12.

Dancers were encouraged to bring clean shoes or use a brush to clean off any winter debris still clinging to their soles before entering the ballroom. Everything from Converse to cowboy boots was on display at the dance.

The gathering brought back a bit of a bygone era with Reynolds and her husband Jefferson’s band, Sugar on the Roof, playing live music and Julie Young calling the dance from the stage.

“It’s really about being together and uniting about something everyone is interested in, regardless of who you are and where you come from and what your preferences and beliefs are,” Reynolds said.

One of the participants, coerced by his wife to attend for Valentine's Day, really wanted to get home to watch Olympic curling, but changed his mind as soon as he arrived.

"I can't stop smiling!" he said.

The next Iron Range Barn Dance is April 25, at the Maple Hill Community Center in Hibbing.
