BEMIDJI — One person was found dead in the midst of a house fire north of Bemidji the night of Monday, Feb. 16.
The Bemidji Fire Department stated in a news release that first responders were called to a residence on Peterson Lake Road in Port Hope Township, about 15 miles north of Bemidji, just before 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters and other responders found the home fully engulfed in flames and collapsed into its basement.
Nearly 30 firefighters worked the scene for about 6 hours to extinguish the blaze. The remains of one person were located inside the home, and the incident remains under investigation.
