RED LAKE — Motorists will need to detour around an underground utilities replacement project on Highway 1 in Red Lake starting Monday, Sept. 22.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said the Red Lake Nation-led project is between Oman Drive and Main Avenue. It is expected to be completed by Saturday, Sept. 27.
Motorists will detour using Highway 89, Walking Shield Road and Reservation Highway 44.
Research indicates that in the coming decades, the state is likely to see more risk days of wildfires starting on the ground due to more extreme droughts connected to climate change.
