VIRGINIA — Authorities identified the 35-year-old woman who died in a three-vehicle crash Friday, Sept. 5, in Virginia.
The Virginia Police Department reported the victim was Tara M. Schumacker of Eveleth.
Eyewitnesses told police Schumacker swerved into oncoming traffic on the 600 block of Second Avenue North and struck two different vehicles. The crash occurred just east of the Laurentian Manor apartments.
Schumacker was unconscious and not breathing when responders pulled her from the vehicle, the police department reported. Virginia ambulance crews attempted life-saving measures and transported her to the Essentia Health hospital in Virginia, but she did not survive.
The two other drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they believe Shumacker was under the influence of an intoxicating substance at the time of the crash. It remains under investigation.
