WALKER — A 59-year-old Cass Lake woman died after crashing a pontoon onto the south shore of Leech Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said in a news release that his office received a report around 1:25 p.m. of a boat crashing into the rocks and shoreline near Walker City Park.
Responders found the woman unresponsive in a 2016 Regency Tri-Toon.
Lifesaving efforts immediately began, according to the release, and continued while the woman was transported to the Walker airport, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman was the only occupant of the boat.
An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
The Walker police and fire departments and North Memorial Health Ambulance and Air Care assisted in the response.

The exodus follows reports that the U.S. Department of Justice was scrutinizing the political activity of the woman killed last Wednesday by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The appointment comes in the wake of two high-profile resignations in the Hibbing School District, which is looking to make around $2 million in budget cuts.

State Sen. Grant Hauschild announced he would run for a second term to represent District 3, which includes portions of Cook, Itasca, Lake, Koochiching and St. Louis counties.
