The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to build a buttonhook interchange at the intersection of highways 371 and 210 in Baxter starting in 2028.

The reconstruction of the major intersection in Baxter is set for 2028. The open house meetings are on July 22, 2025.

BAXTER — Brainerd area residents can learn about the recommended design for the highways 371 and 210 intersection at two upcoming meetings.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will show a video presentation about the proposed buttonhook interchange at the open-house style meetings.

Both will be at MnDOT's Baxter office at 7694 S. Industrial Park Road on Tuesday, July 22. The first is set for 1-2:30 p.m. and the second for 4-6 p.m.

Reconstruction of the major intersection is expected to begin in 2028, with planning and design work continuing until then.

MnDOT said it selected the project design after analyzing current and future demographics, land use, development trends and transportation safety data.

"The project aims to improve access, safety and traffic flow through the Brainerd Lakes area," MnDOT said.

Planning and design work will continue through 2027.
