FAIRBANKS TOWNSHIP — The recent wildfires and accompanying evacuation orders forced the cancellation of the Local Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting in Fairbanks Township that was set for May 14.
By the time the evacuation order was lifted, it was too late for the township to give proper notice for a rescheduled meeting.
To serve any property owner in Fairbanks who wants to appeal their estimated market value or classification for the 2025 assessment, the St. Louis County Assessor’s Department has set up an alternate appeal process.
Property owners wanting an appeal should call the assessors for the area: Brian Grahek (218-471-7733) or Max Carlson (218-471-7272).
The appeal process will not account for the value of property damaged by the recent fires, as the assessment is as of January 2, 2025.
Damaged properties may qualify for Local Option Abatements and Credits, however. Assessor staff will be visiting these properties as soon as it is safe to do so to determine eligibility.
