The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning on Monday, May 5, for far Northwestern Minnesota due to high winds and low humidity.
The affected counties are Clay, Kittson, Norman, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau.
Fire danger remains high to very high in much of Northern Minnesota, with no open burning currently allowed in places west of Bemidji and north to Lake of the Woods, and variance burning permits required for most of the state.
Campfires within the 3-foot rule are generally permitted under most fire conditions, with wildfire experts like Smokey the Bear encouraging safe fire practice such as dousing embers before walking away.
