Wildland firefighters perform the Big Bull Riparian Prescribed Fire on the LaCroix Ranger District in spring 2024.

The Superior National Forest plans two dozen or so fires in the coming weeks, ranging from 2 to 2,000 acres.

DULUTH — Superior National Forest said it will begin its prescribed fire operations as conditions allow. Prescribed burns help reduce overgrown vegetation to prevent wildfires.

The Forest plans two dozen or so fires in the coming weeks, ranging from 2 acres to 2,000 acres.

Prescribed fire areas may be closed to the public for several days.

The Forest said residents may experience smoke during the fires. If you encounter smoke while driving, slow down and turn on your headlights.

To stay up-to-date on prescribed fire operations, check the Superior NF website and social media.
