Two state agencies will share information about Minnesota Power's proposed solar project in Cohasset, Leech Lake Reservation and Deer Lake Township.

COHASSET — The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and Department of Commerce will host two meetings next week on Minnesota Power’s proposed Boswell Solar project.

The utility plans to build a 500-acre solar facility and a transmission line on 1,300 acres of private land in Cohasset, the Leech Lake Reservation and Deer Lake Township. The transmission line would connect the project to the Boswell Energy Center.

The agencies will share information to the public about the proposed project and the state’s permitting and environmental review processes. The public will also have a chance to comment.

Pending approval from regulatory agencies, the two solar projects will be online in mid-2027.

The in-person meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the Cohasset Community Center.

There will also be a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday. Find more details, including the meeting link, here.

Written comments will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on April 17. They can be submitted online or by email.

Comments should include the docket number (E015/GS-24-425 [Site Permit] and E015/TL-24-426 [Route Permit]). Comment topics are:

  • What potential human and environmental impacts or unique characteristics of the proposed project should be considered in the environmental assessment?
  • Are there any methods to minimize, mitigate, or avoid potential impacts of the proposed project that should be considered in the environmental assessment?
  • Are there any alternative routes or route segments that should be studied to mitigate potential impacts associated with the proposed project?
