The 61-year-old man reportedly had dementia and, thanks to thermal imaging, was located near where he was last seen. He was found in hypothermic conditions.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY — The St. Louis County Rescue squad is credited with locating a 61-year-old man late on Saturday, March 8, after a nearly five-hour search.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that the man, with reported dementia, went missing about 3:30 p.m. He was last seen around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 2 in Brevator Township near Saginaw, hitchhiking and looking for a place to sleep.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad was paged to assist and found the man lying down in the treeline not far from where he was last seen.

On its Facebook page, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad shared that drones provided thermal images of the area, finding the man in an area hidden from view from the road above.

While found in hypothermic conditions, the man reportedly responded well to treatment on-scene, later transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
