School bus rolls after T-bone crash, injuring 21 students, both drivers

HIBBING — The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a T-bone crash where an SUV struck a school bus carrying Cherry School students on Thursday morning, Sept. 12.

According to the report, 21 students suffered minor non-life-threatening injuries when the school bus rolled on impact near County Road 5 and Town Line Road in Hibbing. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with injuries, and 12 students were also hospitalized.

The driver of the 2006 Toyota Rav4 is at Essentia Health-Duluth hospital suffering life-threatening injuries. She was identified by the state patrol as 19-year-old Svea Snickers of Alborn.

The bus driver, 52-year-old Shawn Lindula of Iron, is being treated at Essentia Health-Virginia with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, Col. Christina Bogojevic, chief of the state patrol, said the crash was a traumatic and stressful experience for everyone.

She extended gratitude to the bystanders, emergency responders including the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and medical personnel who acted swiftly to help at the scene.
