The grants from the Minnesota Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation are geared to support tourism and recreation.

The cities of Biwabik and Coleraine will both receive $30,000 grants from the Minnesota Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation.

The grants are intended to support tourism and recreational activities.

Biwabik will use the funds to replace and upgrade the outdated and insufficient electrical service at Vermilion Trail Campground. With the new equipment, the campground will be able to host modern campers and RVs.

Coleraine will renovate the Cotton Park Playground on the north end of Trout Lake. The playground features a swimming beach, public boat landing and outdated play equipment, and will become compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act with the remodel.

Also among the funded projects is a new outdoor fitness circuit geared toward people 50 and older at the Itasca County Family YMCA in Grand Rapids.

The IRRR granted that project $15,000.
