Two candidates are vying to fill a seat in a special election vacated by the death of Wayne Skoe in February 2023.

NORTHOME — The Community Economic Development Associates in Koochiching County will host a candidate forum for a special election this November.

Meet the Candidates will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Northome Town Hall.

A special election, according to a news release, was prompted after Koochiching County District 5 Commissioner Wayne Skoe died in February.

A special primary election in August narrowed down the slate of four candidates. Candidates Dale N. Erickson from Birchdale and Rich Mastin from Big Falls will be on the ballots in Koochiching District 5 on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

District 5 is geographically the largest in Koochiching County, and includes the communities of Big Falls, Birchdale, Loman, Mizpah, Northome and a portion of International Falls.

Questions about the forum can be directed to Lisa Randall at 218-259-0326. The Koochiching County Auditor’s Office can answer questions on mail-in ballots or voting in person at 218-283-1102.
