Lake Bemidji State Park to host 'Night Under the Stars,' other events

Lake Bemidji State Park is offering a number of different events in September for the entire family.

BEMIDJI — Lake Bemidji State Park will host “A Night Under the Stars” 7:30-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.

This evening program will feature a short presentation on constellations and night sky photography, followed by viewing stars and planets through a telescope, roasting marshmallows and listening to a story.

No equipment is necessary, but a flashlight is recommended.

Registration is required and is limited to 30 participants. All ages are welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Register by calling the park office at 218-308-2300 or by emailing the park’s naturalist.

The program will depend on weather conditions and visibilities. If postponed, the event will be Friday, Sept. 29.

Lake Bemidji State Park events calendar

  • 10-10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4: “Voices from the Past: The Fight for Lake Bemidji State Park” at the Visitor Center. The first mention of the area by Rocky Point becoming a public park was over 120 years ago. 
  • 1:30-3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4: Lake Bemidji State Park naturalists will be on hand at the Bog Boardwalk. Learn more about the bog as the naturalist strolls along the boardwalk.  
  • 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 23 and 30: Lake Bemidji State Park’s “Story Tree” at the Amphitheater. This preschool program is designed for children ages 3-5 years old, with adults required to accompany children. 
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23: Lake Bemidji State Park will host “Autumn Wellness in Nature Walk.” The group will perform a number of mindfulness activities, including a five senses hike along the Rocky Point Trail. Participants will meet in the west picnic area. Supportive shoes and water are recommended.
