The seventh annual Lumberjack Mile & 5K supports United Way of 1000 Lakes’ Community Impact Fund on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS — United Way of 1000 Lakes hosts the Lumberjack Mile and 5K Saturday, Sept. 9, in Grand Rapids.

Participants are encouraged to wear their lumberjack best. The race starts and ends at Grand Rapids Public Utilities, beginning at 9 a.m.

Awards will be presented following the race, recognizing top finishers in each division and "Best Dressed." In addition to choosing race distance, participants can complete the run or walk virtually in the location and time they choose.

"We're excited to be back for our seventh run," stated Kimberly Brink Smith, United Way's executive director, in a news release.

Race entry ranges from $35-40 for adults and $25-30 for children. The race packet, guaranteed to early registrants, includes a limited-edition, collectible T-shirt designed by Jenny Farber of Chaotic Beauty Artistry (a Grand Rapids-based artist).

Proceeds from the race will be reinvested into the community through United Way's Community Impact Fund, which aims to improve the lives of children and adults throughout the Itasca area.
