BEMIDJI — The short documentary A Place on the Edge of Breath will be shown 7 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Rail River Folk School in Bemidji.
Previously shown at the 2022 New Orleans Film Festival, the documentary covers the intersecting lives of Ava and Francis over the course of a year as they reject the socialization of gender norms from childhood.
“They forge a new path towards adulthood, sharing moments of healing together on their journey to a place called home,” a news release stated.
Shaawan Francis Keahna, a producer of the documentary, arranged to screen the film in the Bemidji community at no charge in partnership with the Watermark Art Center. He will be joined by co-producer Ava Aodha for a discussion following the screening. The film is directed by Veronica Rutledge
Keahna, a cross-disciplinary artist and musician, has more video work on display in Watermark's Miikanan Gallery in a joint exhibit with emerging collage artist Joan Kauppi titled “Aanikoosijiaade: ‘It is Linked.’”
