Area Voices: Author Mary Lahr Schier, The Northern Gardener

Mary LahrSchier's book "From Apples to Zinnias: the Northern Gardener, 150 Years of Garden Wisdom"  is a treasure trove of hints, suggestions, anecdotal stories and tried and true strategies for creating successful gardens in northern climates.  Schier weaves Minnesota history through her pages, connecting current day planting and tending methodologies to their origins in days gone by.  She even delves into how gardeners can use phenology as they contemplate when to put various plants in the ground.   Mary Schier spoke with us on the morning show about her book, how it came to be and she even shared some universal gardening tips that will help anyone as they consider what to plant and where to plant.
