Minnesota James Beard award winning authors and chefs Amy Thielen and Hank Shaw talk about the new cookbook "Borderlands: Recipes and Stories from the Rio Grande to the Pacific."

In this conversation from the KAXE Morning Show Hank Shaw joined us to talk about his new cookbook, Borderlands: Recipes and Stories from the Rio Grande to the Pacific.

Hank Shaw is a James Beard award winning cookbook author and chef. His website is Hunter Angler Gardener Cook.

Borderlands is described as a creative culinary road map exploring recipes like Fish Tacos, Chimichangas and Cactus Salad as well wild food recipes and techniques of using ingredients like mesquite, wild game and wild greens.

In this conversation you'll hear talk of butter, mincemeat pie with venison and blueberries and cuisine bringing together cultures.

"The whole beginning of the book is based on sort of basics and bedrock stuff like making means and learning how to make those beans into refried beans," said Shaw, "those are your building blocks.
