Shirred standing rugmaking is a technique to make wool rugs and incorporates textures, colors and patterns.

BEMIDJI — A free rugmaking demonstration will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji.

Local artist Starr Ann Lenz will demonstrate the shirred standing rugmaking technique. Lenz will show how to make traditional shirred standing wool rugs while incorporating textures, colors and patterns.

Those interested in learning more may sign up for a class with Lenz, who will teach a two-part class April 8 and April 15 at the art center. To learn more, visit watermarkartcenter.org.
