About this race
The school board is responsible for setting the school district budget, adopting district policies and hiring and overseeing the superintendent.
Current board members Karl A. Beck, Andrew Graham and Anna Kanani are running for reelection.
The top three candidates will begin their four-year terms in January.

The school board of Independent School District No. 306 (Laporte Public School) has proposed to increase its general education revenue by $1344.85 per pupil. The proposed referendum revenue authorization would be applicable for ten years beginning with taxes payable in 2027, unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law. Shall the increase in the revenue proposed by the school board of Independent School District No. 306 be approved? BY VOTING "YES" ON THIS BALLOT QUESTION, YOU ARE VOTING FOR A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.

Please share any prior experience and education that you believe qualifies you for office.
I have over 30 years experience in public schools as an educator or facilitator. I hold an associates degree in arts a bachelors degree in science masters degree and educational leadership and administration. I believe I can bring an educators viewpoint to the school board having been in the classroom for so many years and worked with a variety of children, staff, and community members
Why are you running?
I would like to continue to make a difference in student staff and community experiences through the public school system at Laporte. I believe Laporte School is a thriving School and has much to offer.
Why should voters elect you?
I have many experiences through a public school system. I have served on Laporte School board in the prior years and I believe it’s important to make wise choices with tax dollars that are community is providing for a student.
Please describe the roles and responsibilities of the office you are running for.
I believe a school board member is responsible for spending tax dollars and being accountable for the kind of education. The students are receiving supporting the teachers and staff is important and good communication communications from the school board to the community students and staff is also very important we’re responsible for spending tax dollars creating and following policies that have been established and providing the best education possible to every student pre-K 12th grade.
Name a public leader you admire and explain why.
I admire governor Kim Reynolds, the current Iowa governor. She has made very wise decisions when it comes to education for the state of Iowa she stands behind her teachers and her schools, providing the funds needed to create great learning environments for Iowa students.
What are your priorities, if elected? Please describe specific goals.
My goal serving on the Laporte School board includes providing the best possible education for all students, support Laporte staff, and continue growing enrollment..
What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing your district, and how do you plan to address it if elected?
The biggest challenge that schools face today is funding. Is a school board member it’s important to talk with our local politicians that make decisions on how tax dollars are spent funding public schools
What is one success in the district that you would offer support for as a board member?
Laporte School has a wonderful reading program that enable students to learn sounds and build upon their phonics skills beginning in kindergarten. It provides wonderful directions for the teacher to use best practice procedures for teaching reading.
