The sheriff is a county's chief law enforcement officer, tasked with keeping and preserving peace.
Current Marshall County Sheriff Jason Boman is not seeking reelection.
The winner of the election will begin their four-year term in January.

I have been in Administration for 8 years with the Sheriff's Office and I have a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership
Why are you running?
I want to serve the people of Marshall County and continue the knowledge and experience that the residence of Marshall County need. I love the residence of Marshall County and want to serve the county I grew up in.
Why should voters elect you?
I have the knowledge and experience to take over the Sheriff's Office day one. I also have the passion and desire to serve Marshall County. I love Law Enforcement. It is a passion of mine and love to help people out.
Name a public leader you admire and explain why.
Sheriff Jason Boman. He loved to serve the community. He would always help you out and always could count on him in time of need.
What is the biggest challenge facing the sheriff’s office, and how would you address it if elected?
I think the biggest challenge right now is the fight on drugs and community awareness. I will have officers part of a drug task force and working with communities to help fight drugs. I also will start a Community Advisory Committee so there can be direct communication with the Sheriff's Office. Communication is a key role in solving crimes and knowing what the communities need from the Sheriff's Office.
Please describe your stance on local law enforcement coordinating with federal immigration authorities.
We are to keep Marshall County residence safe and enforce Minnesota law like we are trained and licensed to do. I will work with federal agencies and keep a good working relationship with them.
How would you build effective relationships with other agencies and offices, including tribal law enforcement, the state attorney general’s office and other county sheriffs?
This goes back to communication and meetings. Meet with these other agencies and build friendships. We are all out here trying to keep the public safe. When there is better working relationship, things can get accomplished in a better manner safely and effectively.
How would you seek to address the intersection of mental health issues and criminal justice in calls for service and your jail?
This is a good topic. My Thesis in grad school was on Mental Health issues in Jail. The jailers need to be trained in mental health issues along with the deputies. We utilize the Mental Health Crisis team when individuals are having a mental health crisis. In the jail, making sure that the inmates have the resources they need to get the help they need. Mental health appointment, the right medication, substance abuse treatment. Giving the inmates the right resources in jail, so when they leave jail they can hopefully keep improving on their mental health.
