Which shows do you DJ?

Jazz On America Ave

When did you start volunteering at the station?

Fall 2023

How did you first hear about KAXE?

Just scanning the dial when I moved here in 2014.

Your favorite recent album or artist?

Rachel Kitchlew - Flirty Ghost and Kassa Overall - Cream

Who got you into music?

My mom was always listening to music. It wasn’t great stuff, lot of Def Leppard and Stryper, but it instilled a desire for a background soundtrack in my life.

Most memorable concert or festival?

Billy Strings on New Years 2023 in New Orleans

Tell us about your favorite KAXE memory.

All the Riverfests. It’s great to see national bands that I’ve been a fan of for decades, like Wilco and Yonder Mountain, alongside acts I’m just discovering like Dessa and Jeremie Albino. All a short walk from my house.

Favorite fellow on-air DJ at KAXE?

Eric Otto

What hobbies do you have outside of DJing?

I enjoy grouse hunting and biking quite a bit. I’ve recently picked up film photography on my dads old Minolta, too

What's a musical ick for you?

Pop-country

Prince or Dylan?

Prince

KAXE is turning 50 in 2026! Why should KAXE exist for another 50 years?

It’s a homemade mix of the people of northern Minnesota. You get everything from old bluegrass to modern alternative. I’m looking forward to seeing what Kari and Malachy continue to do with this station.

Dan was born on the south side of Chicago and remembers dancing to Booker T and the MG's as his 1st musical memory. What followed has been a lifelong adventure of hearing new music and being exposed to the people and communities that produced the artists. Forwards in all directions!
