Album of the Week: Palomino by First Aid Kit

Out with their fifth album, Palomino, sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg (AKA First Aid Kit) have recently moved from the United States back to their home of Sweden. While spending a decade in the US, the sisters dove in to all things American music, channeling Laurel Canyon, , folk-rock of the 60s, 70s, Everly Brothers and Americana.

Their 2018 release, Ruins, was released after a long-term relationship dissolved; the topics were about being a bit broken and discontent. Palomino seems to be a more experienced take on love, acceptance of change, and even acceptance of unrequited love. In the song 'Angel', the lyrics read 'I love you even if you don't love me...I love you even if you can't love me.'

Palomino feels like a natural progression of how we perceive love as we age. It's still not easy, but the knowledge that life moves on, even if it's different, is evident.

The music director at KAXE since 2014, Kari (pronounced Car-ee) Hedlund reviews music on the daily. She also hosts New Music every Wednesday (2 and 10 p.m.) and Sunday (noon), along with the KAXE Morning Show on Thursdays.
