Katie Carter & Katie Smith

Katie Smith is a Grand Rapids, MN native who discovered her passion for performance at the age of 4.  Since then, the stage has been somewhat of a second home.  She pursued her theater degree with dance minor at the University of Minnesota Duluth and turned her passion into profession.  Grand Rapids has continually been her home base and with her business, Young at Art, she now provides a variety of classes for youth and adults who have an interest in theater arts, tap dancing and film-making.  In this segment of Area Voices, Katie shares why she loves tap dancing, what she's learned from life in the theater, and what's happening at Young at Art.

Katie Carter started at Northern Community Radio in 2008 as Managing Editor of the station's grant-funded, online news experiment Northern Community Internet. Since 2016, she's produced Area Voices showcasing the arts, culture, and history stories of northern Minnesota. She's our local host of NPR's All Things Considered and CBC's As It Happens every weekday from 4-7pm.
