Lake Street Dive is the soundtrack to your summer fun on the new album Good Together.
It's the Brooklyn-based pop-soul group's eighth full-length album, and their first without co-founder Mike "McDuck" Olson. Olson left amicably after their previous album, Obviously, and is replaced by guitarist James Cornelison. Despite the lineup changes, it is classic Lake Street Dive.
Front to back, Good Together is a collection of meticulously crafted pop songs that are fun, funky and easy on the ear. Opening track "Good Together" is a horn-filled celebration of a new relationship and the potential good times ahead. It's one of two duets on the album between lead singer Rachael Price and keyboardist Akie Bermiss.
From there, the band heads to the dance floor on the '80s synth-funk inspired "Dance With a Stranger." Price reminds listeners to not be afraid of rejection when asking someone to dance, to take it in stride if it does happen, and that you'll remember the successes far more than hearing "No."
In another first for Lake Street Dive, the whole group contributed to songwriting in the studio. The different inputs keep the album fresh with the band translating their sound through different styles.
Another standout is the strutting "Get Around." Cornelison's bluesy guitar riff and Bridget Kearney's funky upright bass crescendo with the full band singing and letting loose on their respective instruments.
Listen to KAXE all week to hear tracks from Good Together, another standout album from one of the most consistent pop bands of the 21st century.
