Eric Bibb's latest album showcases his captivating stage presence and authentic folk-blues sound.
Recorded in his hometown of Stockholm in 2022, Live at the Scala Theatre features 10 songs from throughout Bibb's over five-decade career.
It captures the electric atmosphere of the venue on that evening, something every live album attempts but very few succeed in.
"Silver Spoon," first released in 2014 on Bibb's Blues People album, tells the story of his music career and move to Europe. The track features stellar work from fiddler Esbjörn Hazelius and pedal steel guitarist Johan Lindström.
Throughout the album, a wide variety of players from the Stockholm scene add depth and richness to Bibb's songs. On his sweetly rolling take of Lead Belly's "Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie" it is master kora player Lamine Cissokho's instrument who steals the show.
Whatever combination of instruments and performers backed him up, Bibb's warm vocals and deft acoustic guitar anchor every song. From his original songs to his versions of traditionals, it is clear Bibb is a lifelong student of the blues.
