DEERWOOD — The 2023 Storyhill Fest will feature live music and artist workshops Friday through Sunday, Aug. 25-27, at Clearwater Forest Camp, south of Deerwood.
Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson of folk duo Storyhill — the namesake and hosts of the event — stopped by Centerstage Minnesota on Friday, Aug. 18. The upcoming performance will be the last for the band in the foreseeable future as they announced a break in performing.
“It will be a good way to close out this chapter,” Hermanson said.
Hermanson highlighted the musical guests as something to look forward to about this year’s event.
“For me this year, specifically the list of artists, the roster that we’ve got coming is really exciting,” Hermanson said. “It’s a lot of newer artists for us that we’ve sort of admired from afar.”
Minnesota musicians Humbird, Molly Maher, and Sarah Morris will join national artists like Vance Gilbert, Scott Cook and Nikki Morgan.
The festival will be livestreamed for the first time this year, making it available to those who cannot attend in person.
The duo, which formed in Bozeman in 1989, did not get into the reasons for ending their musical partnership. Asked whether it would affect the festival going forward, Cunningham was unsure.
“It’s such a tradition that it would be pretty hard not to do,” he said. “But yeah, we’ll just have to see, I guess one fest at a time.”
