ST. PAUL — Crush, the latest album from Twin Cities hip-hop artist Nur-D, is a celebration of body and love.
Previous projects were heavily influenced by the uprisings in Minneapolis after George Floyd was murdered, and this time around Nur-D wanted a different sound.
“With Crush, I really wanted to kind of celebrate, and have a little bit more fun, and also just sort of delve into different aspects of love and body and all of that stuff,” said Nur-D, speaking on Centerstage Minnesota.
Even with the lightened mood and celebratory sound of Crush, there is still a powerful message for the rapper.
"It gives me an opportunity to say the things about myself that some days I know are true and then some days I wish were true,” Nur-D said. “It allows me to have that canvas to paint the story of me and the story of my body and being able to express that for other people who are having similar thoughts and similar days.”
