On her upcoming fifth album Here’s To You, Sarah Morris is trying new things.

“I love country music and the bones of my songwriting will always reflect that,” Morris said on Centerstage Minnesota. “And also I’m singing less towards that direction and have been for a while.”
Here’s To You has a lush and textured sound, featuring layered vocals and synthesizers. Morris highlighted two Minnesota albums that influenced her new work: the folk and electronic combination of The Nunnery’s 2020 Floating Gardens album, and Dave Mehling’s 2021 album Beach Boy.
“I love country music and the bones of my songwriting will always reflect that,” Morris said on Centerstage Minnesota. “And also I’m singing less towards that direction and have been for a while.”
Morris brought in Mehling to produce her album.
“Dave is really excellent at making all kinds of wild, wacky, wonderful sounds,” she said.
To hear solo versions of the songs, she will be performing Friday, April 21, in Park Rapids as part of a songwriters round.
