COHASSET — If you have ever looked into a full closet and thought, "I have nothing to wear," it might be time for a clothing swap.
A clothing swap is a chance to get rid of clothes that are still in good shape, but you don't wear anymore for whatever reason. In exchange, you can look for items that are new to you and give your wardrobe a refresh.
The Parks and Recreation department of the city of Cohasset is hosting a clothing swap to honor Earth Day, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at its community center (located within City Hall).
Steph Kessler, the city's director of parks and recreation, was a recent Bright Spot guest on the KAXE Morning Show.
"There are so many clothes out there," Kessler said. " ... It's kind of this wicked cycle we're in, where we just want new clothes all the time ... so we get rid of the old ones."
Kessler added that online shopping and fast fashion are ways we end up with too many clothes.
Instead of buying new all the time, Kessler said she loves going to garage sales and thrift stores, because you never know what you'll see.
"Are you going to see a cashmere sweater? Are you going to see something from the '70s?"
The clothing swap in Cohasset is a chance for folks to get rid of what they don't want — whether it's because it's no longer your style or doesn't fit quite right. However, you do not have to bring anything to take clothing at the swap.
Bring your unwanted clothing anytime 6-8 p.m Wednesday, April 22, to Cohasset Community Center. Do not bring anything that is unwearable due to stains or holes. Stay the whole time if you wish, or just stay for a while. Anything not taken during the swap will be available 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday for free.
