A digital rendering shows the WonderTrek Children's Museum's plans to build a 36-foot tall tree house in their new Outdoor Adventure space in Baxter.

WonderTrek Museum in Baxter seeks to engage children in the joy of play and the wonder of learning. This summer they will break ground on a new outdoor adventure space.

BAXTER — WonderTrek Children's Museum believes in the power of play.

"We want to create a space where different generation ages can come and play and explore," Sheila Boldt said in a recent KAXE Morning Show conversation. "From exploration and play comes learning."

Boldt is communications manager for WonderTrek Children's Museum, which is getting ready to break ground on a new Outdoor Adventure, located on Highway 371, next to Baxter Elementary School.

Boldt spoke with us from Organic Roots Schoolhouse, a nature school that her children attend in the Brainerd area. While we were talking, the kids found frogs and beetles. This is the hope for WonderTrek's new space: that kids will enjoy themselves in nature.

The museum currently travels to local events, bringing fun activities that encourage creativity and exploration for kids through age 12. Its mobile Play Lab truck and trailer has reached over 50,000 people at both public and private events, as well as schools.

The Outdoor Adventure space will feature trails, gardens, a 36-foot tall tree house and more. Museum leaders hope to have part of the space ready by this January or February to begin their winter programs. They plan to operate the space year-round.
