Events Up North April 7-13: Record Store Day sale, local history

Beltrami County History Center celebrates "Train Days" April 12 and 13, 2025.

Events this week include a pancake breakfast in Bovey, United Way meet and greet in Grand Rapids, classic movies in Bigfork and Hibbing and brunches in Brainerd and Buck Lake.

It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:

Monday, April 7

  • Minnesota author Darrell J. Pedersen book talk - 10:30 a.m. at Pine River Public Library; 2 p.m. at Crosslake Area Library
  • Brown Bag Author Series with Frank Weber - noon at Brainerd Public Library
  • Classic Movie Series - 6:30 p.m. at the Edge Center for the Arts in Bigfork. This month's film is The In-Laws, starring Alan Arkin and Peter Falk.

Tuesday, April 8

  • Bemidji Adventures in Lifelong Learning - 10 a.m. at Bemidji Eagles Club. Local historian Cecelia McKeig will share stories of the north Lake Irving neighborhood.
  • Minnesota author Darrell J. Pedersen book talk - 10:30 a.m. at Bemidji Public Library; 2 p.m. at Blackduck Community Library
  • Kootasca Community Action's Big View program: Aging with PRIDE – Understanding Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and the Unique Needs & Barriers for the Older Adult LGBT Community with Paul Blom, owner & CEO of Right at Home - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids.   • Bemidji Symphony Orchestra informational meeting for potential board members and volunteers - 5:30 p.m. at the orchestra's office space at 521 Minnesota Ave. RSVP by emailing bso@bemidjisymphony.org.
  • Classic Movie Night - 6:30 p.m. at the Paulucci Space Theater in Hibbing. This month's film is A Hard Day's Night, starring The Beatles.
  • Candidate forum for Senate District 6 - 7 p.m. at Forestview Middle School in Baxter. All eight Republican candidates have been invited. The DFL only has one candidate. The event is hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Brainerd Dispatch and the League of Women Voters, with support from the Rosenmeier Center for State & Local Government at Central Lakes College. The event will be live-streamed on the chamber's Facebook page.

Wednesday, April 9

  • Minnesota author Darrell J. Pedersen book talk - 10:30 a.m. at Cass Lake Community Library; 2 p.m. at Margaret Welch Memorial Library in Longville; 6 p.m. at Walker Public Library

Thursday, April 10

  • Minnesota author Darrell J. Pedersen book talk - 10:30 a.m. at Park Rapids Area Library
  • United Way of 1000 Lakes Meet and Greet - 4 to 6 p.m. at Rapids Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids. Learn what it takes to be a board member or committee member for the United Way.

Friday, April 11

  • Minnesota author Darrell J. Pedersen book talk - 11:30 a.m. at Brainerd Public Library; 3 p.m. at Pequot Lakes Community Library

Saturday, April 12

  • KAXE/KBXE Record Store Day Sale - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rail River Folk School in Bemidji
  • Aebleskiver Brunch, Craft and Bake Sale - 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. $10 per person, $5 for children ages 6-12. Proceeds benefit the charitable giving of the Danish Sisterhood Amber Lodge #186.
  • Train Days - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Beltrami County History Center in Bemidji
  • Upstream Homebrewers' Spring Homebrew Tasting - 3 to 6 p.m. at Keg n' Cork in Bemidji. Those age 21 and older may sample up to 20 different beers with live music from Caige Jambor. $10 cash at the door.
  • Mesabi Symphony Orchestra concert - 7 p.m. at Hibbing High School Auditorium

Sunday, April 13

  • Buck Lake Improvement Club's monthly brunch buffet - 9 a.m. to noon at the Buck Lake Community Center, 12 miles north of Nashwauk
  • Pancake breakfast - 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bovey City Hall. $5 per plate, kids 5 and under eat free. Proceeds benefit Bovey Farmer's Day.
  • Train Days - noon to 4 p.m. at Beltrami County History Center in Bemidji
  • Suds n' Seeds - 1 to 3 p.m. at Bemidji Brewing. Help package corn seeds that will be distributed as part of the One Vegetable, One Community program.
  • Mesabi Symphony Orchestra concert - 2:30 p.m. at Rock Ridge High School Performing Arts Center
