GRAND RAPIDS — The worlds of science and music will collide as the Itasca Symphony Orchestra presents "The Universe at the Symphony."
The performance will include visual artistry and talks by astronomer Jose Francisco Salgado, on Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids.

Orchestra director Pedro Oviedo and Salgado gave a preview of the concert in a recent KAXE Morning Show conversation.
"It's kind of like a soundtrack in reverse," Salgado said. "In this case, I'm not writing music for a film, but I'm making a film to a piece of music."
He went on to describe the films as "animations that are driven by scientific data."
"The result is, no pun intended, out of this world. It's really fantastic," Oviedo said.
Salgado is the co-founder and executive director of a nonprofit called KV 265, whose mission is "the communication of science through arts to communities worldwide." He also leads aurora borealis tours.
Music for the concert includes four movements from Gustav Holst's The Planets and The Legend of the Northern Lights by contemporary composer Christopher Theofanidis.
