Beltrami County History Center hosts a program about the Federal Music Project on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024

There's lots to do this week, including a poetry slam in Bemidji and reading in Brainerd, a walk for Alzheimer's in Grand Rapids and an art gallery open house near Deerwood.

Here are some events to check out this week!

Tuesday, Sept. 17

  • Rosenmeier Forum - 7 p.m. at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. This month's topic is housing issues and solutions.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

  • Verse Like Water poetry program - noon at Central Lakes College's Chalberg Theater in Brainerd. This event features U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera.

Thursday, Sept. 19

  • Beltrami County Historical Society Brown Bag History - noon at Beltrami County History Center in Bemidji. The program is about the Federal Music Project, a program of the New Deal. Bring your own lunch, if you wish.
  • Poetry Slam - Registration at 6 p.m, performances at 7 p.m. at Fozzie's Smokin' BBQ in Bemidji. Hosted by Watermark Art Center.

Saturday, Sept. 21

  • Virginia Area Historical Society Fall Fest - 2 p.m. at the Lion's Building in Olcott Park in Virginia. Paleontologist John Westgaard will present on dinosaurs (free), followed by a burger/brat/hot dog dinner ($15). Call 218-741-1136 by Wednesday, Sept. 18, to reserve your place for dinner.
  • Fall open house - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ripple River Gallery, located south of Deerwood. Meet artists, try your hand at nature printing and enjoy refreshments, all while supporting Wild and Free Rehabilitation Program.

Sunday, Sept. 22

  • Walk Around the Block for Alzheimer's - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Rapids Elementary School in Grand Rapids. A 1-mile walk featuring food trucks, vendors, crafters, raffles and games. The event is a precursor to the Range Area Walk to End ALZ on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm.
  • NAMI Grand Rapids 5K walk - Registration at 2:30 p.m., walk at 3 p.m. at Rapids Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids. A celebration will follow at Rapids Brewing Co.
