Events Up North Aug. 12-17: Itasca County Fair, Bemidji vocal competition

August is in full swing throughout Northern Minnesota. There's lots to do throughout the region, including roller skating in Coleraine, a cornhole tournament in Brainerd and bat walk in McGregor.

It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota! Here are a few things that are happening.

Headwaters Music and Arts will hold its annual Bemidji Sings vocal competition Monday, Aug. 12 at Bangsberg Hall on the Bemidji State University campus. Tickets are available online. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The show begins at 6 p.m.

The Lyric Center for the Arts in Virginia presents The Senora Winds at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The free concert features three woodwind players on oboe, clarinet, and bassoon.

Grand Rapids Area Library has its Summer Celebration from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. Enjoy fun activities and free snacks like Kona Ice. Plus it’s the first day to turn in summer reading cards for a prize.

The Itasca County Fair begins Wednesday, Aug. 14 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18 in Grand Rapids. Admission is free. More information, including the schedule and parking and ticket prices, can be found at itascacountyfair.org.

The Beltrami County Historical Society continues its Brown Bag History series at noon on Thursday, Aug. 15. Retired educator Sue Bruns will interview a panel of music teachers from across the county.

Learn about bats at McGregor Public Library at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug.16 Then, take a bat walk survey at nearby McGregor Marsh Scientific and Natural Area.

Quad Cities Roller Derby hosts open skating at Hodgins-Berardo Arena in Coleraine from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Bring your own in-line or roller skates and skate for free or rent a pair for $3. Concessions will be available. Skaters under 18 will need a signed waiver.

The Brainerd Warrior Football Association will hold the first Paul Bunyan Cornhole Shootout from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Brainerd Armory with both competitive and fun divisions. Boards will be available, but teams must provide their own bags. More information available here.
