Winter activities abound this first weekend of February. KAXE Producer Jennifer Barr has rounded up a few things to check out in Bemidji, Palisade, Hill City and Crosslake.

NORTHERN MINNESOTA — Punxsutawney Phil is one smart dude.

We just officially passed the midpoint of winter with Groundhog’s Day, but the first weekend in February will feel almost spring-like. And, for the first time in two years, Phil emerged from his hole and did not see his shadow in Punxsutawney, Pa,. This means an early spring, which is no surprise this year to Minnesotans, and this weekend there’s lots to do without the traditional cold and snow.

Here’s a few to check out!

BRRRmidji Days

Bemidji Jaycees are holding the first ever BRRRmidji Days, Feb. 1 through Feb. 4. There are a variety of activities that will benefit area nonprofits.

One highlight is the BRRRmidji Plunge in Lake Bemidji, starting at 1 p.m., near the Paul and Babe statues. Spectators can watch participants jump into Lake Bemidji to raise funds for Bemidji Special Olympics.

You can listen to our conversation with Bemidji Jaycee members Eva Fisher and Brittany Isensee above.

Winterfest in Crosslake
