The weekly noon concert series kicks off June 6 with Adessa and the Beat at Bethany Lutheran Church in Deer River.

GRAND RAPIDS — For more than 20 years, churches in the Grand Rapids area have provided the stage for a wide array of one-hour musical acts throughout the summer.

This year’s lineup of noon music includes a wide range of genres from chamber orchestra to folk music and big brass sounds.

Kathy Shields and Darcy Reich have been part of organizing the musicians and rotating church venues since the initiative began. They stopped by the KAXE Morning Show to discuss the artists participating in this year’s series.

  • Aug. 1, Sisters in Song (close harmonies from a local sextet), Community Presbyterian Church. 
  • Aug. 8, Rapids Brass, Zion Lutheran Church.  
  • Aug. 15, Grand Rapids Community Big Band, Grand Rapids Assembly of God Church. 
  • Aug. 22, Family Favorites: Songs Across the Generations (Deer River LaTourelle, Greenside, and Rukavina families), Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
