Border News Roundup: From Drought to Deluge

Marshall Helmberger on the Friday Morning Show.

On the Friday Morning Show Heidi Holtan talks with Marshall Helmberger editor and publisher of the Timberjay Newspaper. This week the EPA issued a 47-page opinion to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recommending against reinstatement of PolyMet’s federal wetlands permit. If this recommendation is considered it could block the copper-nickel mine PolyMet has proposed from going forward.

Heidi and Marshall talk about the Ely radio station WELY, which is shutting down June 1st after 17 years of mounting financial losses, leaving staff and listeners saddened by this news. They also discuss the nicer weather and the rising water levels. Marshall reports NE MN going from drought to deluge, leaving area rivers at flood stage and lake levels rising quickly due to rain and snowmelt.
