Moira Villiard: Rights of the Child

Multi-disciplinary exhibit encourages consideration and conversation around childhood in the modern world.

…at the end of the day, I think my core …is kind of space in people… lots of different styles, lots of different mediums, but my goal is to just get people in a spot to talk... - Moira Villiard

Moira Villiard’s multi-disciplinary exhibit Rights of the Child opens at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji today. In this Area Voices segment she shares her inspirations for the show and how she hopes it inspires those who experience it.

…The Rights of the Child exhibit specifically is…looking at children's rights… a combination of my personal feelings around inner child work that I'm doing and also stuff that I see in working with youth through my art…a general concern for the state of the world that we're leaving future generations, that's kind of what's embodied in the works.…
... I've always tried to use art as this platform for me to explore topics that are interesting to me, and I go into it knowing that I don't have all the answers. I'm not an expert on anything, but I have a curiosity and I like to talk to people, and I like to think I can talk to lots of different kinds of people. So… from the beginning, I've always just had an interest in connecting with people and hearing their thoughts and hopefully sharing knowledge. - Moira Villiard
