Bird Decline: Birding Guide Kim Risen with a “Birders” Point of View

The last in a series with conversation about bird decline on the Tuesday Morning Show.

This week John Latimer and Heidi Holtan continued their conversation with forest/bird producer Mark Jacobs in their last in a series on bird decline. Kim Risen from the NatureScape Tours joins them to talk about the bird decline from a “birder’s perspective” and reflect on their series on the forest bird decline. As a birding guide and avid birder Kim talks about the changes he has noticed in local forest bird population and about some local species that are declining and some species that may have increased.

In the past four segments Peter Dieser from American Bird Conservancy discussed the forest bird decline, and Alexis Grinde from Natural Resources Research Institute gave an overview of bird habitat in our MN forests. We then had Amanda Mahaffey from the Forest Stewards Guild talk about the “Forestry for Birds” initiative, and Ruth Bennet from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center gave us an overview of their Bird Friendly Coffee certification program as potential ways to address the decline in forest birds.
