South Beirut Suffers Under Israeli Barrage
Israeli warplanes pound a Hezbollah stronghold in south Beirut, killing two-dozen people, in the seventh day of Israeli air attacks. More than 200 Lebanese have been killed in the bombing campaign. The bombing is a response to Hezbollah missile attacks on Israel from Lebanon, and the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers.

USPS Suspends Mail Delivery In Parts Of 10 States Because Of Dangerous Polar Vortex
"Some places could see wind chill readings as low as 60 below zero," the postal service said as it halted delivery for a day in parts of the Great Plains and Midwest.

The record-breaking flooding is threatening communities and farmland along the upper Mississippi. Davenport, Iowa, is experiencing downtown flooding. The high water is continuing to move downriver.
The CRP: Paying Farmers Not to Farm
This year, instead of crops, 34 million acres of American farmland will produce tall grass, pheasants and ducks. That's thanks to the CRP, a USDA program to protect soil, streams and wildlife habitat on farms that accounts for about 8 percent of all farm subsidies in 2005.

South Florida is being pummeled by heavy rain that's caused flooding in communities from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The rain, expected to continue through Friday, temporarily forced the closure of Interstate 95.
