Phenology Report: 1/14/20

Marilyn Lee via KAXE-KBXE Season Watch FB Page

Taking time to contemplate what is happening in nature is one of the many aspects of Northern Community Radio that sets us apart from any other radio station.  Each day we bring you a phenology note where our resident phenologist John Latimer shares a note from his journals of more than 35 years of climate and nature data collection.  Each Tuesday we dig even deeper with the weekly Phenology Report.  Today, John talked of sighting ravens, rabbits, and bald eagles. He also mentions that coming soon the owls will be nesting and canids will be courting.  what are you seeing outside? Let us know by emailing john or calling a message into our talkback line, 218-999-9876

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
